Timing problems
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 SOHC engine. My wife was driving the other day and as she approached a parking place the engine died and made a horrible noise when trying to restart. Called a mechanic and had him check it out and said that it was the timing chain or the tensioner that was broke. He went to the local Ford store to get the parts and was informed of a service bulletin that was to fix the problem. I went to the recalls and tsb part of this site but couldnt find a detailed description of what I was looking for. I found a little summary with a service bulletin number of 00m12 and 01m01. I am trying to find a detailed description of the problem in the service bulletin.
Any information that you can provide would be extremely helpful as to the fact that I just spent $2k plus for a tranny rebuild for this vehicle within the last couple of months.

I know theres something regarding the timing chain tensioner, where they wear out and make a nasty noise,, i think if i remember correctly Ford extended the warranty to 160k on this part. I think my 98 sport is having this problem now, where it sounds like a chain dragging on the ground at about almost 3ooo rpm.
