390/C6 2WD LB which tailshaft housing is correct.?
1971 F-100...I went to buy a tailshaft or extension housing seal. I had a hard time finding the correct seal, and it turned out that the correct seal was a seal that was listed for a 4WD C6
This C6 has a cast iron tailshaft it's shorter than the aluminum one you find on cars and the driveshaft yoke is secured to the tailshaft with a nut so it's not sliding in and out of the transmission...
My truck is a 2WD, has a 2 piece driveshaft... and it looks original... I'll go look at the junk yard to see what some other trucks look like....
I was starting to wonder if I have the correct trans or not
That is how the tailshaft is on trucks. You probably just had a dufus parts man or he had a bad book. When you get a parts person who seems to be having problems, ask them to go to the paper book. My local parts house, the owner says the information is alot more accurate in the paper book than it is on the computer when dealing with older vehicles.
the cast iron tailshaft came on hi-performance fe engines. ie 428cj and police interceptors. ask for those components and you will not have a problem.
