Your favorite machine shop just might even have an extra block laying around. Sometimes the projects take too much money to "get out of hawk" and parts are left at the shop....

Just a heads up if you go for a new block as
I have. There are apparently some issues
on mounting bolt patterns. Two bolt vs
three bolt or something like that. My
core is in the soak tank at the rebuilders
so I have not figured it out. There
was a thread on this a couple months ago.

Good Luck!

This may cause some of you to cringe but I've been calling around and can have that cylinder bored and sleeved for about $100. I think I'm going to go for it. Wish me more luck.

Be sure the sleeve ends up being the same bore size as the rest of 'em.

I'm all over it. I made it a special point to be redundant on telling the guy that the sleeved cylinder had to be 30 over when all was said and done.

I've another question now. I numbered the rod caps so I could put them on the same connecting rod, is that necessary? I did it because I heard a long time ago that I should.

Yes it is critical to put on the same cap/rod combo.

Absolutely critical!!! Make sure they're pointing the same way they were when you took 'em off, too.

I had that cylinder sleeved and it is awesome. I did find the marking that Ratsmoker was talking about and it's 352. So far so good.

Keep in mind that the 352 there means next to nothing. You could have anything from a 352 - a 428. Even the mighty 427 had 352 there. Later blocks (post '72) usually had a mirror image of the number 105 there. I think you can see it in my gallery on one of my pictures.

Gentlemen,
The engine is back in the truck and fired up on the first crank, idled even. Purring. I appreciate the help.
Debestuss out.

Congrats! I guess you already knew it was a 390 so I don't know why I mentioned the above post. I hope it lasts many many miles like FEs often do!
