Any of you guy's know a trick that I can pass on to my dealer about how to install a high pressure power steering hose and not have it leak?? they have tried 2 times repalced the hose once but the damn thing still leaks any info would be nice.
I recently replaced a power steering pump and pressure hose on a 99f250SD 4X4 V10. First of all, the pump bearing seal should not have started leaking on this truck at 50k. I don't know which end is leaking on your truck, but I suspect the pump end. There is an interesting joint here where the connection can move back and forth even though the hose is tightened. Basically it feels like it is not tight, even though it is. It has some kind of dual washer and bushing or something. I do know that you cannot overtighten the connection, or it will leak and that if it is removed you need a new nylon washer in there.
I guess I got lucky and it worked when I did it. The biggest problem I had with the ps pump was pressing the pulley off and on. I would recommend taking it to a machine shop for this, but I did it with a puller and vise(and hammer) and it worked. Hope that helps you some.
The only problem when I bought my truck at 70,000 miles was that the hose was leaking... The dealer fixed it without incident, however they said that they were given the wrong hose first.... they said it looked OK but it leaked when they put it on... so they got another that one worked fine.
