interior lights/gauges

interior lights/gauges
for some reason my interior lights such as the dash board lights and my speedometer doesnt work. ive checked fuses for the lights and speedometer link to the tranny. i havent had time to take the dash apart to check the lights them selfs. what else could i check??

Is the dimmer switch in the off position? Don't mean to state the obvious but thought I'd just check.

It was a short in an exposed wire. Besides that my heater fan only comes on high havent checked anything yet on it.

Sounds like a bad blower resistor. It's probably under the dash/passenger side, but on my 87 it's under the hood. Buy a new one so you know what you are looking for.

i know my heater box is on the fire wall on the passenger side but only has one plug in going to it. i dont know if i would have to take it apart or not.

The resistor will be screwed into a hole in the plastic heater duct. It's cooled by air flowing thru the duct. It will have 4 or 5 wires attached. What year Ranger?

i think its 4 wires and its a 85

Sounds like you found it. Just replace it & you should be good to go.

The blower resistor is about 20 bucks at Napa. Just replace the resistor.

If the cruise control AND speedometer dont work, pull the cable out of the trans & check for a broken drive gear.

dont have cruise control. checked the cable didnt take it out though

If this is the same as my 87, it will have a plastic gear on the end of the cable. Just pull the cable out of the trans & see if the gear is broken.
