Need Governor Help
My '92 Aerostar 4.0 liter hangs in 1st gear until it gets warm. I tried replacing the modulator; however, the problem still exists. I read the archives about the governor being the problem. I dunno. Here's the deal: When I drive the van, it stays in first gear until for about 5 minutes...then it shifts. After this "warming up period", the transmission works fine.
Does this mean that the transmission is shot? Can I replace the governor? It's probably got sludge in it. I replaced the fluid and filter this summer...no problems....the van has 156k miles.
Any ideas???

If you have the 2WD version, you must remove the rear drive shaft, then the extension housing. Then you will see the governor.
If you have the 4WD version, then you must first remover both dirveshafts, then the transfer case, then the extension housing.
