I would like to start off by thanking ford for the crappy *%#@!@#* leaf spring pads in the from of the fine piece of machinery that I call my truck. I love my truck, I practically live out of it. throught some comparison I have found a few things.
1. My truck has a very annoying spring noise in the front when the springs slap together because the pads fell out or wore out.
2. The ford parts guy looks at me like I have 3 heads when I asked if he could order me some pads. Even after I had him crawl under my truck he still didn't change the look.
3. My Captain at my station has a PSD and he has slightly different springs.... his pads didn't fall out... i am jealous.
We are all asuming you didn't have any kind of extended warranty or something.
You must be talking about the teflon button type pads that go between the
leafs,correct?
Do you have a spring shop around where you live?
They would problably have some, since they build springs for replacements
on trucks.
How are the shackle bushings ? worn dry rot? if they are worn you might
want to replace them while your at it,
what type of work and driving do you do?(you practically live out of your truck)
alot of back roads ,dirt roads ,bumpy roads or highway stuff?
we had alot of ford trucks and replaced a lot of spring bushings and bolts in years passed we drove on back country roads, those trucks took a beating
Hope this helps !
84k is not really alot of miles ,depending what kind of miles they were
Good luck

No extended waranty, I know who owned the truck before I did and they did alot of Highway milage... they never towed anything with it and there is less scratches on the bottom of the truck than on the sides (not many there either) I will check with the spring shop and see what the can do for me...
Ahh, the dreaded spring squeak. Ford has redesigned those isolators a couple of times now and eventually just redesigned the springs. You can either get the new redesigned springs or if you don't have a couple hundred $ you can just get their newest spring tip isolators part #1C3Z-5B302-AA.
Yep, my truck seems to insist on sounding like a junk pile. First it was the junk leaf springs and now it's a loose baffle inside the muffler. At least I have a good excuse to do some mods.
Should those spring isolators be warrantied or is there a TSB or something on that? I guess I never knew it was a problem that a lot of trucks were having. My noise is intermittant but when it is there it is annoying as H@!!.

There's a total of, I believe, three TSB's about the problem. If you're still under warranty they'll fix the problem free of charge. If your warranty is up, you're on your own. The original TSB # is 99-16-3 but I'm not sure what the other ones are or if they even change the tsb number after they revise them. The first two kits came with 4 spring tip isolaters but the newest one comes with a total of 8 pieces. 4 pieces go in exactly the same spot as the old ones and the other four pieces are curved and go between the flat isolators and the upper spring eye.
