Shift Linkage Problems ?
Tonight I got into my 99 Expedition and the shift lever would hardly move out of park into reverse, it then took a very strong tug to pull it into drive. When I got back home it was again difficult to move back into park. It's a 5.4 with the 4R100 tranny and about 120K on the clock.
Does this sound like a linkage problem rather than a tranny problem? Would it most likely be in the steering column? How would you suggest I go about trying to diagnose it? Should I disconnect the linkage from the tranny first?
I would appreciate any advice as I don't have much expreience in this area. FYI...the car had been in the garage which was about 50 degrees at the time.
