I have test driven an 04 three times because I like the styling and ride, but I just cannot get over how hard the seats are in the xlt, they have very little side or bottom bolster support. I feel like I am sitting on a wood bench compared with my 02 F-150. Can anyone tell me if these seats break in after a while. One last dissapointing thing is that the captain chairs have such a low armrest that you almost have to lean down to get your elbow on it.
Are you talking about the cloth or leather? I have the leather capt. chairs. Leather does start out hard and soften over time. I find that when I get my seat adjusted just right it is very comfortable. Too bad my wife changes it every time she drives it and I have to take a few minutes to fix it. They do have a memory option that fixes that problem but I'm not sure if it's available on the XLT. If your driving one with power seats try lowering the seat so your arm rests where you like it. I find that with all the adjustments available (seat, steering wheel, pedals) I can get it where it fits just right.-Jack
Hey Hump180, I felt the same way when I first got my 04 Lariat with the 40/20/40 bench. Now I love it, just had to get it adjusted right and it did break in a bit. What helped for me was lowering the back of the seat, closest to the back of the seat. It seemed to create that perfect pocket for my rump where as if it was too high it felt like I was riding a school bus. Hope that helps.
My cloth seats are already un-stitching in the rear.
I agree, the XLT seats are like sitting on a bench.
I need the center console down just to relax. My legs also
have no support. I have to use my thigh muscles just to keep them closed. Can't sprawl out because of no leg support.
I've had a 04 XLT 5.4 SC with cloth captains chairs since 10/03 w/6800 miles. I picked up my ordered truck after an 8 week wait last October and almost did not sign the papers because of the seats. The bottom of the seat is flat with no thigh support. My right leg will go numb after a short period of time and my @#$ will slide down the seat. I drove a Sport Trac today and the seat is deeper with a lot more thigh support than my truck.
I hate the seats!
Maybe in 05 Ford will change the seats.
I have the black cloth sport seats in my FX4 - not sure how they differ from the ones you've tried. They're pretty firm but I think they're also very comfortable. As far as them breaking down... don't count on it. My experience with my 88 and 98 stangs and 92 F150 were that the seats never changed much after years of use.
I have had my 04 FX4 SuperCrew since 01/28/04. I ordered my truck with all options including the black leather captains chairs. The power adjustable driver seat is very comfortable. I've only ridden in the passenger seat a few times. Even though it's not a power adjustable seat, it too was comfortable. I am a little disappointed in the rear "vinyl" seat. It is not as comfortable as the rear seat in the 02 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 that I just traded. It seems that the rear seat does not recline as much as the 02. Shame on FOMOCO for putting "vinyl" seats, and a passenger seat without power adjust in a $39,950.00 vehicle.
