NoMo, Thanx 4 the reply. My truck is ESOF and had the elecric motor on the diff. replaced 5 mos ago. The motor alone was $500.00 but under warranty then. When I turn the electric shift **** the system is dead. I've checked the fuses and checked the connections on this new motor. The thing that is upsetting is this truck has never been abused, is well cared for and has caused me a lot of grief since new. I am surprised at this expensive trucks' lack of reliability. Don't know what the dealer will say next week, but I am getting ready to butt heads with Ford if I have too. Ford Tough ??

Wayne, define dead. I read it to mean. No 4x4 indicator light on dash, no feeling of the transfer case engaging (when I put mine in 4LO, I know it!) No nothin'. Hopefully not, but is that the case with yours? Nothin'?
I find nothing listed about a electric motor in the diff either. Where'd you get that idea? Man, I hope the dealer isn't jerkin' yer chain! There is a motor within the transfer case to move the shift forks. <on edit>I'm sure that is what you are referring too though.
Also which fuses did you check? In the Central Junction Box (in the cab) the fuses should #6 & #15. In the Power Distribution Box (under the hood) it should be #104.
Have you tried ruling out the hubs as the cause? Assuming, of course, that the tranfer case IS working...
After using the excellent trouble-shooting info that monsta gave, call the place that "fixed" the truck last time and see if they have any kind of warranty on their work. Something is really wrong if you keep blowing shift motors in the transfer case... and it's probably NOT the motors.
