I am doing some unusual academic research which involves me tracing a single Ford Ranger back through time, passed its time on a dealer lot, passed its assembly in St. Paul, back to when it was just a collection of parts in various factories around the world. The Ranger I'm tracing back is a 2000 Supercab XL, 4-door, 4X4, with a 3.0 L V-6 engine. I already know where the engine, transmission, frame, rear axle, and fuel tank came from, because they are essentially all Ford, Mazda, or Tower-made parts (which I've already determined through research). Does anyone have any hints about other parts, or where I might look online or in the library to find the point of origin of other parts? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Well, I used to haul automotive parts to Ford plants and have been to St.Paul facility many times. The driveshaft is made in Louisville, Kentucky by Dana Corporation. Your door panels and kick panels are made in Greencastle, Indiana by Lear Corporation. Your carpet and padding are made in Sydney, Ohio but I can'nt remember the name of that place. I've picked up parts at Oxford Automotive in Corydon & Greencastle, Indiana , Air Conditioning parts at Visteon in Bedford, Indiana But I can tell you that all the parts come from Indiana, Ohio,Michigan, Kentucky and Canada I just can'nt remember the names of anymore places right now.
