I have read - somewhere about this being a problem & maybe a TSB....
When I have Cruise engaged it tends to "buck" (for lack of a better word) anyway - when I set the cruise it feels like it drifts down 1-2 MPH and then "catches-up" to the preset mph (contantly). I am not sure whether the small hills around here contribute, but it has happened on flat roads.
hey, mine does the same thing! i have a 5.4 2001 F250, it only seems to do it if i set the cruise at 70mph though. Let me know if you find out anything.
Hopefully we'll get some comments on this. I don't use the cruise that much but I think I saw that there was a common problem... so maybe we'll get a tsb - Like to get it fix - you know - we paid for the warranty - gotta use it!

Hey, I don't know if this is the same problem but I have noticed that when I the "coast" button to slow down a mile or two that the RPM's will jump about 250-300 and then settle back down. Are y'all experiencing the same thing?
WOW! Mine works flawlessly. I do wish it had a cancel button on it so I didn't have to graze the brake pedal and have my brake lights flash...(Turning it off and then on makes it lose the last speed setting.)
Yeah- the Super Duty trucks seem to be the only ones with any kind of problems. The Excursions, F150s, and Expeditions all work fine. It mostly seems to be gassers with this problem; although a few PSD owners said they have issues too.
Hi all
2001 Excursion LTD, V-10, 4X4, 3.73 LS, black. since the truck was new it hunts on cruise control at 70 mph. I never noticed a speed change but you can feel the throttle come on and off at a steady rate. It doesn't do it at 69 mph or 71 mph, just at exactly 70 mph. I talked to many others with super duties and excursions and they all said they had the same thing going on. So I fixed mine. I don't drive at 70 mph with the cruise on. No more hunting. I agree that it shouldn't do this, but look at the alternative. Take your truck to the dealer and let them screw around with it until you really have a problem.
Big trucks do big things well, sometimes they just don't do little things as well as little cars.
Wow... I have this exact problem as well. Only at 70mph. Not anywhere else. Okay, now that we all have the same problem, who wants to be the lab-rat to take one into the dealer and post the fix?
Same problem here. I took mine to dealer 3 months ago. He said "it was a known problem, factory working on, should have fix in 30 days".
Still waiting......
Just don't set it at 70... Problem fixed.
While I was at the dealer today getting my power steering pump replaced I asked the service manager about the 70MPH hitching while in cruise he looked it up and there is a service alert about the problem it occurs at 42 MPH 70 MPH and 92MPH and it is caused by an ABS electronic control module. If the symptoms are present they will replace it with a new redesigned part.
