I thought I was the only one that busted him/herself all up and took all day to do a job like this.
I usually do it once just so say I did it, then leave it to the mechanics.
Reminds me of the time I was changing the clutch on my car. Picture me, on my back under the car removing the last bolt, and my wife holding a rope tied to the tranny.

You convinced me...to let a real mechanic do mine.
Sounds like all the reason to me to do it myself! I used to be a mechanic... believe me some mechanics WILL say "screw it" when something is a major PITA. Might end up only having 7 new plugs.
At any rate, thanks for the entertainment. Now I am anxiously looking forward to the day of skinned knuckles and drunken stupor on my Expy. I'm up to 81k... won't be long.
Its great being friends with my local dealership. I brought a 12 pack and a lawn chair; one beer for each plug replaced! It's so easy to just watch. The tech got the other four to help dull the pain.
You folks are great, iv got a brand new expy with the 4.6 and i'm dying to put in the Bosch platinums + 4. I don't care too much about the money for a mechanic but I DON'T trust them to change all the plugs. I'm a 1/2 *** mechanic so i'll try it this spring.

This is what I've worried about, but I think the shop I've used is a really good one, plus, IF I do go the easy road, I'll have them save and label all 8 of the old plugs for my review.....I'll tell the mechanic that I want to "analyze" the plugs to see that all cylinders are burning correctly.

jrahn,
I recently changed my plugs and skin! with OEM Motorcraft plugs. I have approx. 2,500 miles on them and I've had no problems as of yet. Like everyone has posted, be prepared for a PITA job and I think you need a lot of patience b/c without it you'll start cursing and screaming and people will start looking at you! LOL
