Personally I would trust an independant transmission shop before I would go to a dealership. I would NOT go to AAMCO, my experiences with them have been - shall we say - less than perfect.
Do you tow over 6k or trailer with large frontal area? If so you would probably do better buying a beefed up tranny available from a number of nationwide vendors, such as B&M. They are pricey but they are bullit proof. Ford OEM trany may not give you the service you need for towing big loads.
If you run around naked all the time any decent tranny shop can fix you up.
Start reading some of the tranny threads on this site, you will get smart in a hurry.
