I just got done installing a diablo stage 2 chip on my truck and I have to say I'm not terribly impressed. I think I may have had too high of expectations. It is quicker to respond and you can rap out second but as far as horsepower and torque go I'm not real sure I gained a lot. Maybe my butt dyno is not working correctly seeing as it is 11 degrees out but it just does'nt seem to be doing what I thoght it would. I've heard that its a good idea to install a 180 thermostat with the chip maybe that will help it boost performance? Maybe I just "need" to keep doing stuff to my truck to get more performance..... got any ideas on what should go on the truck next ?

yes a lower thermostat will work only if the chip was burned for it. (programed) the lower temp will let the motor use more timing without ping.
i would go with ported heads and a camshaft or a supercharger, but i would wait intill a roots type blower comes out. just my opinion but i like the lower rpm boost in trucks anyway.
good luck let us know what u do!
you sound like me when I first got my chip. I have a couple of questions for you. What octane level is your chip programmed for? I had to send mine back once to get it tuned a tad more aggressively and it worked great after that. I am currently on a 93 octane program. It works really well. After I added an intake and exhaust I really felt the kick that I was looking for. Also, you should give you tank a couple of cycles to get the gas flowing ya know? I put nothing but 93 octane in my truck even before I got the chip, and it still took a week or so for me to start really feeling it. Don't be worried, you'll get what your looking for.
I have a superchip flip chip on my V6 and it was a very noticeable HP increase. I personally haven't heard much good about the diablos so I stayed away from them.
If you want to add more power go with underdrive pullies, Air force one, catback exhaust and then the big daddy..NOS.

You haven't heard much good with the Diablo? Where have you been? So far I've personally witnessed a near half second drop off 1/4 mile times just with the chip. The flip-chip I've also heard good things about, but the Diablo I've heard far better.
You know that AF1 intake doesn't give any more power than the MAC right? They are both the exact same design with a different brand, and we are talking a difference of over 100 bucks. MAC is the way to go. Everything else I agree with you about though. Underdrive pulleys, catback, NOS, and other stuff.
I don't have track times but I bet I dropped over 1/2 second in the quarter. The noticeable difference came from racing at the track one weekend without a chip. I don't remember the exact times but with my 5spd roll the tires for about 1/2 of 1st gear and just chirp the rest. With the chip I burned the tires thru 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I couldn't grab traction for my life. That was something that my truck had never done.
All I have read about diablo has been negative for the V6's. Most people I have seen with that chip barely gain power at all. They reported only getting the limiters taken off.
AF1, most of the intakes are the same as for what they give. The AF1 is just higher quality(parts) than the rest on the market. I wanted looks and performance. AF1 gave that to me.
While I'm not trying to turn this into a ****ing contest, I'd have to agree with you on the power with your chip. I've heard good things about it, but I've heard much better about the Diablo.
Anyways, the MAC and AF1 are both chrome intake kits with a big filter at the end...that's it. The pretty much look the same IMO.
Actually, I have been thinking about a different chip called an SVT chip or something like that. They seem to be pretty nice chips also. Question: Is a superchip flip-chip a 4 bank chip?

SCT: Superchips Custom Tuning. They are supposed to be coming out with something soon that will let you reprogram your chip yourself.
All I can say is lets see some timeslips and then we can talk what does who for how long on what days. K? I bet that without a chip, Ive gained a lost a couple tenths....Ive also dumped more than 240 dollars into it......Hmm...Personally, I think AF1 Looks like something that belongs in Fast and the Furious. Im not tryin to flame anyone, but since we are stating opinions...
My point is, lets get together in LA, and race again next month! LoL. Ok Ok. If you guys really want a power adder....go with a supercharger.
Also, about that, I dont agree with the roots style. Like I said, not flaming, just stating. here is what i think
Pros:
Low RPM boost
Cheaper
Cons:
Not as upgradable (from any kit ive seen so far)
Less efficient
For towing, not racing
These are all personal opinions. If you want to really haul nizzies, get a procharger, and custom fab it to fit your truck. www.got-pressure.com check out the discussions there. Also, look at the Lightning leaving the eaton for a P1SC, that will be one WICKED truck.
Okay guys I gave the chip a little while to impress me and I am more impressed. However the day after I installed it my truck died while I was on the highway. It wouldnt start up in the performance (middle) position. I turned it to the bottom stock position and it fired right up. I've not had a problem since starting or otherwise. Anyone got any ideas? I have really been having a lot of fun "testing" the truck since I got the chip. It does seem to perform better off the line and seems to have more power in the mid to upper end of power band. I still may send it back to get it retuned a little more agressively but for now I am pretty happy with it.

And those are quarter mile times. When I get time, I am going to do a complete test of the chip at our new track. I'm gonna run about 6 times. 3 on/ 3 off Then, I'm gonna dyno it. Then we will see just how much power our trucks can get with the Diablo.
Check to make sure the connections are completely free of the coating. That might have caused a problem. Did you do the install exactly like the instructions suggest. Disconnect the battery and leave the key on for 5 minutes to get rid of residual current.
well your butt dyno is probably fine, adding a chip, which i think diablo is probably the best on out there, but for one you really only gain about 10% in horse pwr. and torque, also you should run a k&n air filter, and you have to run only premeim gas 91 oct. or better, new intake will help as also exhuast, but yes really only 10% its really not worth the money, i do kinda know my work sells diablo chips now if you had a diesel well then by all means put in a chip they work wonders!
