My son just bought a 94 Ranger XLT 4X4, but it doesn't have a manual so we can't figure out what a particular switch is supposed to do.
To the left of the steering wheel, on the dash, below the headlight switch (which is a pull-out switch), there is a rocker switch, with what looks like a headlight diagram on it. But, it doesn't appear to do anything.
Can anyone clue us into what its used for?
My guess is it's the dome light and your bulb is burned out. If that isn't what it is, it could be something somebody put there for a different reason. Does it look like a factory switch?
I have pretty much the same truck, and i dont remember anything being there, i'll have to double check tommorow. Does it look factory or somthing that was installed aftermarket?
the switch in question is a factory installed switch. It doesn't contol the dome light, that has its own switches on the lamp itself
The guy we bought it from didn't know what it did either (he was the 2nd owner). He was guessing it may of been for some fog lights that may of been installed on a front spoiler (that is no longer on the truck)
Check behind front bumper to see if any wires are just hanging there. Those could be the wires to the old fog lights which would probably be what the switch controlled. Just and idea though.
Yeah, thats probalby the most likely thing. If its a factory installed switch. I know my ranger didnt come with the fog light valance and fog lights, but i know it has the wire harness for it. you could get a multimeter, and switch it over to volts, and turn the switch on, and do some testing once you find the harness.
I bought my Ranger new in 94 so I can tell you what it is, since I opted for it..................the switch is for the optional ( ~$200 sticker price) fog lights. The option was only available on XLT 4x4's that year.
