Something like a 7,000 to 8,000 pound load, close to the weight of the truck.
My tow truck is a '96 F-250 2WD long bed 460 inch engine. K&N air filter, Hookers, Flowmaster 70-series 3" exhaust, ignition timing advanced up to just below the ping point on mid-grade gas, an electronic braking system and a pair of Air-Lift air bags in the back. Tires are factory stock size 16" Michelins, 8-ply, load range E on aftermarket aluminum wheels.
I can run empty around 400 miles on the factory dual fuel tanks.
I'd have to stop and take a whiz after 300 miles, anyway, maybe sooner depending on consumed beverages.
Absolutely no problem towing the trailer or a tall stack of 50 bales of hay- over 3,000 pounds in the bed at the speed limit anywhere.
Am I missing something here?
While I support stimulating the economy, what more do you want to do, other than spending an extra $25,000 you don't have to? Last week I even out pulled a new V-10 on a 2 lane freeway entrance ramp, 0-65 MPH.
One more thing-- I paid $8,500 for the truck a few months ago and it's in beautiful mint, cherry head-turning condition.
That's my perfect tow vehicle.
If you want an "Oh-Wow" show vehicle, that's a different matter altogether, you're not suggesting a very practical tow vehicle.
Happy trails,

All the rest of the bells and whistles are up to you.
That's your strongest towing combination, and don't be fooled by Fords tow ratings for automatics. You will be restricted by the amount of fluid pressure the torque converter can muster when you are pulling really heavy loads. There is no substitute for the direct connection of a heavy-duty clutch.
