I was wondering if anyone that has installed the Daystar 2.5" lift has seen any type of suspension problems so far with it on. I am very interested in it, but am weary of excessive stress on the CV boots.
If anyone could give their $0.02, I would appreciate it.
I have not experienced any problems at all with the leveling kit. At the time of install I choose not to do the front end alignment because I was told it was not necessary. I have had it on about 4 months now and been off road a few times and still no problems. I did hit a solid log under snow last time so took it in to have the alignment checked again and it was still good to go. I love the leveled look plus getting ready to either put a 4" Susp lift on it or wait for the 2-3" Body Lifts to arrive to the market.
I had the leveling kit installed AND had it aligned because it was highly recommended. The alignment was another $60 -- not that much to pay for "piece of mind." Just do it! It really gives the truck a nice look! I paid just under $300 total from my local 4WheelParts.com shop.
While I'm still jealous of BlkButy's wheel & tire combo, I just couldn't afford the new wheels. So, I upgraded from my stock 265/60's to Nitto 285/60's. I'm thrilled with the results ... and have gotten a bunch of compliments on the non-stock.
I guess I'll wait to level mine so I can find out if there is goin' to be any problems. Don't forget to reaim your headlights, it's in the manual how to do it.
Hey I just called a shop about getting the daystar kit installed along with an alignment. They said the kit was $115, labor was $140, and front end alignment was $105, for a total of $360. Seems like they're a little high on the front in alignment, what do you guys think?
Of course I don't have my truck yet, but I'm just getting everything lined up for when it DOES arrive.
Before I got my truck, I had them quote some mods including the Daystar leveling kit. I was quoted the following:
Kit $75.99
Labor $104
(wasn't qouted alignment)
When I took my truck in to get to work done, I was quoted the following:
Kit $112.17
Labor $104
Alignment $104
Turns out the first guy to quote me used the wrong kit ... the one for previous year models. So, the guy setting up my paperwork, etc. said he'd adjust the labor down to $70 from $104 to offset the misquote. Now, prior to taking it in for the work, the guy on the phone told me to bring in a quote from another alignment shop and that they'd match it ... said it was an easy way to save some money! Cool, huh!? So, I told them Speedy Align would do the alignment for $60 and they matched it.
In the end, I paid $252.17 plus tax. There was an extra (standard) $10 charge for "lubes/cleaners/towels/hdw."
I'm wondering if my dealer could get it done cheaper? The dealership always sends trucks off to the local "4wheelparts" store and has them modified then sells them on the dealership lot. Usually they have 5 or 6 trucks "customized" and ready for sale, so the dealership must have a big account with this shop.
I had my kit installed yesterday. They said the alignment is not needed because nothing is changed during the install except the height of the truck. They test drove it to be sure. I drove about 100 mi after that and the front end is fine. It really improves the look IMO. Now it looks like a 4WD truck should. If you read the instructions you will see that they do not mention re-alignment. If it was needed I'm sure they would say so since they say that the kit should be installed by prof. mechs and to re-torque the bolts after 500 mi. 4wheel parts quoted me a total of $560 for the kit, installation and alignment (which they said was needed). I got the kit from them for $120 and had it installed by a local shop for $125. Any good shop with a coil spring compressor can install this kit in 2-3 hrs. But if you've got an extra $100-$200 laying around and want the uneeded alignment for your peace of mind don't let me stop you.--Jack
If you install the leveling kit do you have to remove it if you put on a suspension lift to keep the front from being higher than the back or can you let it on?

Don't know but if you already had the strut/coil assy. removed it would'nt be much trouble to remove the spacers.--Jack
