hey i'm new to the forum and ford trucks and would like to lift my 2002 2wd f-150. i was wondering what was the best way and what kit to use. i would like to go up around 4-6 inches. thanks..
6 inches is alot thats what i tell myself anyway.
i personally dont like body lifts. you sometimes have issues with wiring length and so on plus all u see is the frame under the raised body. i would go with a good suspension lift u can find them just about anywhere. look in offroad mags.
also remember when u put those big tires on you will want lower gears!
Check out the Fabtech Lifts thread on this BBS. I'm leaning towards the Fabtech 3.5" spindle kit or the 3.5" performance suspension kit - local quotes are within $250 of each other - the performance lift comes with shocks.
I was trying to talk myself into going cheap (body lift) but lots of people have talked me out of it for a number of reasons. Primarily I don't want the risk of body/frame separation in a collision that the body lift can exaggerate. Also consider that your factory wheels might not have the appropriate back spacing for these kits which would force you into aftermarket wheels. Only bad if you're counting your pennies Two shops indicated that I would need different wheels and one said my stock wheels were fine as long as I ran the stock tires. Currently I've got Michelin LTX 265/75 R16s. I'm figuring I'll run with the current wheel/tire package and then upgrade/upsize in a year or two to 285/75 R16 BFG TA/KOs and rims.
