What are people's thoughts on resetting the computer after installing a bolt on. I put a Gibson cat back on last week and did not reset the computer.
Resetting the computer makes the computer know about the part immediately. But if you don't reset the computer, it gradually adjusts over time or is this wrong.
I don't think you really need to worry with your exhaust install. When you disconnect the battery, reconnect and then start up, the system will want to re-learn what's going on with monitored systems, but the exhaust, after the downstream O2 sensors, isn't monitored.
Why not reset it just to make sure? It really doesn't take that long to re-learn anyway.
I've made it a habit to reset mine after every oil change. I decided to do this because the whole truck started flipping out on me one day, shortly after I bought it. The 4WD wouldn't engage, the air suspension wasn't working, and it was running like crap. After tinkering all day and pulling all of my hair out, I finally had the idea to reset the computer. Problem solved!
