fuel pump question

I thought my carb was screwed up so I took it off and brough it to the carb shop... guy puts a pressure tester on it and says everything is ok with the carb, that it's probably the fuel pump. I'm thinking no way it's getting plenty of fuel. but the pressure gague is going crazy, from 3 to 9 psi. when I start the truck fuel is spewing all over the place so I thought.. stuck float or something. He said "to put the carb back on and start the truck when it dies, remove or clamp the fuel line to the carb and restart it, if the truck runs ok it is the fuel pump. So I do all that and sure enough the truck ran fine. has anybody ever heard of a fuel pump pumping to much fuel? carb guy said it's rare but it does happen.

most likely it is the fuel pump. if the carb checks out then spend the extra 15 dollars and get another pump

you should not need it but it would not hurt. i have a cheap electric pump on my 1406 600 cfm edelbrock and i think it says high volume . it works fine. i had another cheaper pump and my the motor would hesitate when the throttle was punched. but i also have a pretty big cam and all aftermarket boltons and internals.
