catastrophic failure...sorta
Well, I got done tearing down the motor out of my 86 Bronco - I bought it with a toasted motor, and planned to replace it with a long block. I thought it ran "a little rough" as I drove it off the trailer and into the garage. Well, I found the problem - Pistons #1 and #4 had been thrown from the #1 journal, and somehow managed to settle such that the engine did not lock. It really suprised me that it ran at all, without any obvious knocking. For awhile, I was worried that I was replacing a perfectly good engine with a sensor problem. 
I needn't have worried...there was half an inch of metal in the bottom of the oil pan. I don't even know if this will make a good core or not! Hah. I'm replacing it with a roller HO - how do ya like that!
