bad stator
what exactly makes a stator go bad? I'm on my third rebuilt alt in as many days with the first 2 having bad stators. I've replaced the regulator after #1. could attaching the electric choke wire to ground on rear of alt cause this. could a bad electric choke cause the stator to go bad? in both #1+#2 there was no current output from alt. I had the parts store test #3 before I left the building so I know its good,only problem now is I'm afraid to connect it for fear I may have ruined the reg.do you think the reg. is still good.the batt. is brand new and fully charged.

are the battery cables, engine &body grounds good? if the belt is too tight it can destroy an alternator pretty fast(overheat bearing) lots of jobber alternators are junk. i'd hook the new one up to a charging tester to check voltage& current output to make sure the regulators doing it's job. the choke wire shouldn't affect the alternator
