I have a 1991 Explorer w/ a 4.0. I had the check engine light checked and it came up that it was the barometric pressure senor causing my truck to gussle gas. It must have one because I check the parts list and the map sensor and the baro sensor are two different part numbers and the had the map sensor in stock, but not the baro sensor.
The BP is on the passenger side firewall
- The BP is inside a plastic box (about 3" square).
- You can't see the box since it is inside the firewall.
Follow the wire harness from the middle of the firewall toward the right fender. My wire harness had a plastic clip attached to the frame of the BP sensor module.
- Look for a single plug about 1" across
- Look for a grey plastic port to the right of the plug
- I do not have a vacuum line attached
Remove the BP module by pulling the harness plug, 2 small screws and the harness clip.
- Pull the entire plastic module box from the firewall.
- The actual BP sensor is inside the plastic box.
- Carefully pry the front frame off the box to pull the sensor
I plan on making a trip to a junk yard tomorrow to pick a "new" BP sensor. I will let you know if this fixes my problem.
