First, you have to take off the lockout, the lockout body, and then you have to take off the outer jam nut off the spindle, then the washer thing, the take off the inter spindle nut. After that, the rotor/hub assembly will come off. Make sure the bearings don't fall off into the dirt. After the rotor is off, you have unbolt the 5 bolts on the spindle. Then you need to use a spindle puller (ie slide hammer with attachment) or a large hammer and a block of wood to work it loose.. it will be tight. once you get it started, you can use a chisel or large screwdriver where it meets the steering knuckle to seperate it. Once you get the spindle off, you have to climb under the front of the truck and take off the rubber boot that it around the slip joint (don't cut it, just loosen the outer clip). Then, if you are lucky and the slip joint isn't frozen, you can pull the axle out and change the u-joint.

While you have it torn apart, you should replace the spindle bearing if needed and repack the wheel bearings.

I meant the clip on the boot. if you've done all that, the axle should just pull out, unless the slip joint is frozen (like my f-250's was). If its frozen, you are in trouble. You'll have to heat it with a torch, or slice out the ujoints in the middle and get a new shaft..
