AOD or E4OD??

How do I know which transmission I have? Ive looked in the Chiltons repair manual and it doesn't say. I have a 90 Bronco XLT with a 5.8...

if its a 4speed auto then you have E4OD. if its a 3speed then you have a C-6. the AOD was never offered with the 351 in our broncos or trucks

Also if the gear selector says P R N OD D 1 its the AOD. If it says P R N D 2 1 and has push button OD then its the E40D. If it has P R N D 2 1 then its the C-6.

Thats how i understood my ownders manual anyway, but it may be different for the 5.8.

Another way to tell is to look a the oil pan. An E4OD pan has 20 bolts. Mine also has the word "Metric" stamped into the pan.

Just learned this myself, look on the label inside the driver's side door, if it says "E" under transmission it is an E4OD, "G" it is a C6.
