Ut-t-t Oh-h-h :-o

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Mar-02 AT 03:55 PM (EST)] I was hoping never to have to see the inside of the service dept. at the Ford dealership, BUT...

My truck sat all day on Sunday. On Monday morning when it was started I noticed a 'puff' of blue smoke enveloping the right side! Didn't think a whole lot about it until it did it again this morning! I'm not sure if I hear the infamous 'piston slap' or not but it doesn't last more than a couple seconds when it is started. It's what I would describe as a 'rattle' coming from deep down in the 'bowels' of the motor! It's got a bit over 2500 miles on it.

Should I have it 'looked' at? (Probably a stupid question, but I HATE to deal with a dealership service dept. ) Help me out guys! Thanks in advance...

I don't think I would get real concerned yet.My trucks emits a little puff of smoke when I start it after a 2-3 day sit but it doesn't burn any oil so I don't worry about it.Keep an eye on oil use and that will tell you if you have any problems that need addressing. The piston slap is something that I've never heard and so I can't say much on that.I would probably wait and drive it for awhile and see if it gets worse.

Did it just start to rattle & smoke? If so, I'd go ahead and make a trip to the stealership if for no other reason than to document your concerns.

Nomo is probably right. If nothing else if there is no problem it will make you feel a little better and they will have a record of it in case it does lead to something more serious.

No it didn't just start the 'rattle'...it's been there since day one. Seems louder on really cold days. As far as the smoke...that just started. Now TODAY it didn't puff any smoke?!?!?!?

You guys are right...I should go ahead and make the dreaded trip if for no other reason than to document it. Thanks.
