I just bought a '99 F250 SD V10 4x4 45000 mi. reg cab 8' box. The previous owner had some gripes with the original engine. He worked for a Ford dealer and was able to get a factory new V10 installed. Is there a way to determine the year of the engine? I don't have the owners manual yet and need to know some maintenance info. Also, what axle codes apply to this year? Thanks, Skydan
Skydan, what do you mean axle codes? You need axle ratios follow rob's advice and look on your front diff. (a little easier to see than the rear). Yes, the 'L' after the 3 or 4 means Limited Slip. And of course you had the choice of 3.73's or 4.30's. If you pull 2000RPM in OD going 68 mph or so, then you got 3.73's.
You have a Dana 50 up front and the Sterling 10.5" rear axle.
I checked the door jamb and under "axle" it has the number 31. Code? My '87 has an 18. As for the year of the V10, the left valve cover has a nickle size white sticker with "001". 2001 I assume. Is there a thread going on oil weights/maintenance tips for '01 V10's? Rob, Monsta, thanks for the help. Skydan (newbie)
