Recently bought 67 Ford F-100 390 with C4 tranny, prev owner put dual exhaust in. I can only use P,N,D, the 2,1 gears will not engage because the linkage hits the ex pipe. Should I redo the exhaust, make new linkage or modify old linkage, or something else? What would be easiest and use the least amount of money?
your tranny is a Cruise-O-Matic, believe me it's not a C6 unless it has a one-piece bellhousing.
On the linkage, here's what I think. Right now it's all stock and your exhaust is custom. Why modify the linkage and make it custom just to clear someone's mistake on their custom exhaust? Since the exhaust is already custom, modify it (again) to clear the stock linkage. That way you don't have two custom (jerry-rigged) systems.
