Good morning. Upon reading various rumors/posts of delays on SuperCrews, 18" wheels, and Blazing Yellow paint jobs, I am concerned about where my truck is in the build process. MY dealer says "still on the line". Is that the best info he can get or might he not be telling me something?
Texan - My truck was scheduled to be built on Feb 2. It was not only built but was also shipped on Feb. 2. I've read post that say the plant can build between 50 and 70 trucks per hour. When you consider that they work 10 hour days that's between 500 and 700 per day. So my feeling is that there aren't any trucks "sitting around" on the line. They don't start building one unless it can go all the way through and be finished.
I figured as much. in this day of just in time inventory and lean thinking it isn't as if Ford has all sorts of empty space beside the assembly line to pull a truck off when its half done and wait for the running boards to come in or whatever. If my dealer knows more, I just wish he would be completely honest with me...

Oh, NO!!! Another consumer throwing that "H" word around again!! We're supposed to be HONEST with you folks?
OK, how's THIS for honesty: I've seen some posts on FTE with links to checking status on vehicles. Would you believe that I HAVE NO IDEA how they work, and I don't even know if I can do it through the dealership? We get a daily status sheet that shows the standing of our vehicles, but I wouldn't know how to do it for someone else. So, hopefully someone else will jump in here and help me out. Meantime, what you see with me is what you get- warts and all....
Thanks for replying! I tried myself using the VOPC system and the darn computer refuses to understand all my letters and numbers in the VIN. I swear I don't have a strange accent or anything -yes I am from Vermont but I don't "tawk like I am frum Bawstun" or anything. ARRRRGH!!!! The computers are taking over, they have become self-aware, we're doomed!!!!!
1956MarkII - as a different approach, do you have the ability to debunk or confirm any of the "rumors" going around about hold-ups at the plant. 18" wheels, SuperCrews in general, chrome running boards, etc?
You can also check it by the order number on VOPC, if you're having trouble with the VIN. Just look at the printout you got from the dealer (hopefully they gave you one). To check by order #, you need:
- make (Ford)
- dealer number/code (on order sheet - minus the leading letter)
- model year
- body type (on order sheet, for example X14)
- order number (on order sheet)
thanks lariat. I tried it and the system said it can't find a record of the order. Then I looked at the priority code and it was 99, so I guess that he did a different order worksheet after I agreed to the pricing. If not, then this truck is never going to be built.
Yeah, you might want to make sure you've got the correct order sheet because as you may have read on here, a 99 will never get built. Also, make sure it accepts what you're saying and verify that on the order sheet. I intentionally gave the machine bad info (wrong body type) to see what would happen and it said it couldn't find any info on my order - so that's what happens when it doesn't find the order for the info you provided. Sounds like you might have the wrong sheet - maybe has the wrong order number on it since it's a 99 anyway.
thanks once again! I tried it with my info inserted in there and it "can't find any record of that order number". I'll try the VIN method again while waiting for my dealer to return my call and e-mail I just sent.
Good luck. If you have the sheet that has a 99 as the priority, I would bet that's the problem. Probably just has wrong info on it and it's not your 'real' order that was submitted. If you get a printout of the true order sheet, that should work.
Well, it was an around-about way, but I found out what I needed to know. Since the VIN computer couldn't understand me I allowed the operator to pick up and I acted as if I was my salesman and gave her the info. It was produced as of yesterday, but doesn't have a ship date yet! In any case, I should still have it by the end of the month I would think!
