rear main seal installation

rear main seal installation
86 F-100 I 300 engine.
Rebuilt the engine and forgot the rear main seal.
Now I have tried twice to slide a new seal in without removing the pan entirely.
I saw a homemade tool somewhere on one of the miscellaneous Ford Forums. Cannot find that thread now?
any help?

Beffore remove tranny, you can remove both mounting base nuts, then pull up engine untill tranny touch passangers cab, in this position you can remove oil pan.
Pul down back engine, remove tranny, release 7° bearing cap, install new seal full oiled by hand, then tigthen again bearing cap, install tranny, pull up, install oil pan, pull down back an ready...
