I don't know if these 6.0 are running well with just straight 4 or 5 inch exhaust??Some say to only go cat back to keep more back pressure? What do you guys think???

Do a search.......here..........and read, read, read,
you'll be happy with the resuilts.
talked to 3 different dealers they all said cat back no problem take off cat voids warranty. if you have a problem a another thing for ford to blame on problem.
Not sure on this but i was told by a old muffler guy that the exhaust is only as big as its smallest part. So if you have a 2 1/4 bend then there is no point in making the rest of the exhaust bigger. you would to remove the thinnest part first
I guess if you think about it the backpressure is already created at that small part.....
Always wondered if he was full of it or just a smart old muffler guy
I do know that banks has done alot of work on these trucks and they say that to big gives negative results. Iwill be installing a cat back system if they ever get my mpgs figured out.
go cat back or turbo back and leave the cat in. My Muffler guy said if you get caught driven on the streets with out the cat its a $20,000 fine. Off road only then its Ok but in MN they take your plates away then.
I just had my exhaust done today!!! I put a 3 1/2 to 4 inch down pipe (non smashed) .. 4 inch into and after the cat, opened the cat almost to 5 inches on both sides...No changes inside the cat..4 inch to Magnaflow muffler then to an Aero turbine muffler and out 4 inch. Tipped with a stainless 5 inch slash cut Aero rolled tip....Looks and sounds great!!! Runs strong!!!!!

For starters, If you go to the Banks web site, and read some of the interviews with Gale himself, you find a statment from Gale saying that the "Perfect" exhaust for a turbo diesel would be an 18" Megaphone! Turbo Diesels don't need backpressure after the turbo. There is a point where an increase in diameter will no longer improve performance, but the benefits of large diameter exhaust systems are more in line with lowering your Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) than with all out power increases. If your looking for "seat of the pants" power increases, you need a re-programmer or a chip too feel a real difference. When you hop the engine up with a chip/programmer though, you really need the BIG Exhaust to keep those EGT's COOL!!!!!!!
The concept of "The smallest part" of the exhaust determining backpressure is correct , but the ability of the exhaust to dissapate heat is a different story.......... With the past experiance of two 2000 7.3's, both with banks 3.5" turbine outlet pipes, Truck "A" with a 3.5" exhaust and Truck "B" with a 4" exhaust, with the same +80hp/150#/ft chip. Truck "A" ran 150-200 degrees hotter than Truck "B" under a semi-heavy load.

150/200 can be appreciable when pulling long grades
I told the guy at the shop I would tell people about him on this site!!! So he did the whole thing for are you ready...$300...That is a steal...He wanted to do a run with a 6.0 to take pics for his shop for advertisement as well....
