Recently changed the amp and subwoofer in my 98 Expedition EB and was wondering if anyone had any experience or recommendations to place a 10 inch woofer in the factory 8 inch sub cutout located in the rear right panel of the expedition. I have seen that MTX makes one, but I am looking for a less costly venture to do this.
Is the factory enclosure built in such a way that you could cut the opening bigger without destroying the structure? I have to ask as I have never seen the factory box.
You could keep your eyes open on e-bay, they seem to always have some listed there.
Another suggestion would be to look at a higher end 8" sub. I had a pair of Kicker Solo-Baric 8's and they made it sound like I had 12's.
Not sure if the structure would support the opening or not, looking for ideas that others may have used. As far as the high end 8, I have an MTX 6000 8 inch now in there and it is not doing the job for me. I used it first with the factory amp, which is very weak and now have another AMP which is great, but I have the 10 in a box outside the enclosure until I can try something else.
I just replaced the sub in our 98 EB. I used a Rockford-Fosgate Punch RFZ3408. It is a 4 ohm 8 inch. Fit great in the factory box and sounds great. Best part was $50.00 at Ultimate Electronics
