I rebuilt my engine last year. I did however, keep the 2 barrel stock manifold and carb. The carb has given me issues the past few weeks and there is just no adjustment to it. Instead of a rebuild, I'm thinking of going with a Holley 2 barrel with a manual choke. There are two options, one 350 cfm and a 500 cfm. I think I will be fine with a 500 cfm on a BB, because I am running a Holley 600 cfm 4 barrel on my 64 Galaxie w/ a 390 and get 20 mpg. I would like your opinions/suggestions on this. Also, what cfm is the factory 2 barrel? Thanks for all the help!
there is a rule of thumb formula on Holly's web site.
think it goes (max rpm * cu.in)/3260 = carb cfm.
I know the 500cfm 2bbl will be just enough for my 390 w/ 4000max rpm.
I've spent over half the cost of a new Holley carb trying to make my stock 2bbl worth a darn. Wish I'd have just pony'd up and gone with a new carb from the begining.
I run a 350 cfm holley on my 360 and it runs great - I run #64 jets - I am at or near sea level .
the one thing I have noticed it that the engine does not seem to pull after 3800rpm other then that I did have the 500cfm on the truck before and the engine performed alot better - it reved out better and also pulled better - but it ate gas too .
I guess it depends on what you use your truck for .
Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to go with the 350 cfm. I have always heard the 360 drinks gas, but mine gets decent mileage until lately. I'm hoping the new carb will get me a few mpg back. Thanks again!
