351W HO differances
What are the major differances between the 351w HO's and the standard 351w's?? Are they reliable...overall good engines? Are parts interchangable? Are there any similar parts found on clevelands? Ive got a 69 mustang fastback that im hoping to eventually get about 400hp or so with a lot of torque. Its got a 351c in it right now married up to a world class t5. Its got headers and an edelbrock carb but thats about it. I just got it...drove it from CA to ND so its pretty sound. open to any ideas/suggestions as long as your competent

The only difference between a Ho and non Ho 351w is minor differences in cam and one has a 4bbl intake/carb the other is 2bbl intake/carb. If you plan to build up a motor anyway then either will work. The only block to maybe look out for would be one that has F4TE stamped under the castin number, this is a roller compatible block found on 94, or so, to 96 trucks. If you wanna run stock heads then look for gt-40 or gt-40p and the 69-75 351w heads.
Personally I would keep the cleveland motor, and rebuild it, unless there is something seriously wrong with it. Does it (cleveland motor) have 2v or 4v heads? later

Cleveland motors weight more, but they are also known for performance. I noticed the 4v cleveland flow very close to the afr 165's in the link above, that shows there is some potential. I wouldn't rule out having the 2v professionally ported either.
As an example:
In the book "How to build max performance ford v-8s on a budget"
They took a cleveland w/t 2v heads added:
flat top pistons to achieve 9.25:1 compression ratio
arp bolts to stock rods
stock oil pump
a johns mustangs & classics custom flat tappet camshaft
.................................110 lobe seperation
..................................560/.585 lift int/exh
..................................duration 232/236 int/exh
edelbrock dual plane intake and 750 holley
msd ignition.
The dyno sheet looked like this:
2500......................142 hp...............373.8 tq
3500......................225 hp...............393.8 tq
4500......................319 hp...............418.0 tq
5000......................360 hp...............420.6 tq peak
6000......................405 hp peak.......387.2 tq
the torque is nice and flat, keep in mind the compression is reasonable, the heads are stock, and this was done some time ago, the cam technology now, is better. Port your heads, slap a custom or newer off the shelf camshaft in, raise the compression a point, get the stall converter and tranny setup right along with a decent gear in the rear and that thing should be very fun, not to mention you said you would like to stroke it, that would be icing on the cake. Have fun and good luck
BTW I am usually all things trucks but I saw a black and gold (striped) 66 fastback the other day and I think I found a car that has got my attention. I have noticed they are not cheap, in any form (minor rust to rough), then again what is. I tried to convince my wife that we should get one, paint it with the stock gold and black colors that came on my eddie bauer truck (black with gold stripes) and get similar wheels, then we could have matching vehicles, sounds like a plan huh?

Let me know what you do, I would enjoy seeing your pix and progress, good luck, later
