"Numbers Matching" ?
I know this is not the original engine.
He said it originally had a 400 in it.
Are these trucks #'s matching?
Does it hurt value if it no longer has the "original" engine.
If I wanted to go back to stock, could I put in a 1977 400 and be correct? The VINS are stamped on the blocks are they?
Thanks all.
Eric
Numbers matching ie: On My 68 Mustang the Block of the engine has a number that Matches my ViN #
What other's consider matching number are when the casting numbers of parts are within a time frame of the build of the truck.
ie: Block, heads, mainfolds cast on say November 15,16 of say 1976.
The truck has to be built after November 16th ,1976 (or early 1977) usually within a month or 2 from the time the parts are cast.
In other words,
The parts are made within a few weeks to months of the date of build of the truck
The 73-79 F series trucks are not considered, "collectible" at this time. If the truck isn't butchered and factory parts are still in use, I don't see why the value of the truck should be compromised. If your buying a hot rod, don't pay alot for it. You can pay alot for it after you buy it! If your buying something to drive don't worry about it. If your collecting, don't buy anything that has been modified.
