Question Keep the T-98?

I plan on using my truck off-road and was wondering if the transmission can take it or should I upgrade to something beefier? How strong is it and how much will it take?

THat's a good tranny. It will take anything you can do to it. I'd compare it to the NP 435 in ruggedness. You won't find anything out there today that's built as tough. I'm for leaving it in the truck. " If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

The T-98 is a very tough tranny, and more over, the granny low is very useful in off road conditions, such as wanting to drive slowly over steep, rough terrain. The NP435 and T98/T18 trannies are the favorites when guys build rock crawlers. Coupled to a very low rear, you can practically outrun it on foot, and with big tires that won't slip, the grear ratio allows for phenomenal low end pulling.

I wish someone could explain why this STUPID site occasionally hides words!! There is a "tires" between the "big" and the "that" up there in the last post. I can see it when I edit, but it always disappears when I post.

Totally wierd......

I see the "tires" highlighted in blue in your post. When you click on these blue highlighted words (tires, gauge, etc.) you're linked to another web page where those items are advertised for sale.

Kind of stupid, if you ask me. MTCW
