Question reg. cab to ext. cab

Is it possible to fit an extended cab with short box on a regular cab frame. The family is getting bigger and I can't part with my truck.

The Ext.Cab frame is longer from the front cab mount to rear cab mount which puts the rear cab mount on a regular cab about 18" off from where you need it to be. And the mount you would have to fabricate for the rear mount would limit your body roll for ride quality.

However you could take the reg cab frame and add the lenght to the center section of the frame. It can be done.

It comes down to how bad you want it. I've done them before so I am confident in telling you this info.

Thanks razor. I will try to find myself an extended cab and extend the frame. It sounds like enough work, but I could at least keep the truck.

You have to put 22" in the frame, not 18... it's alot of work, legality of the frame work is always iffy, and, since you are changing the cab, and therefore the VIN number, why not find an extended cab with a bad engine or such and just put your powertrain in it?

In my postit clearly states "(about 18 inches)" not exactly 18 ". And yes it is alot of work. But so is swapping engines or installing fuel injection to a carb motor.
I would without questioning the mod go ahead and cut the frame to lengthen it. As I work with metal on a daily basis.
Information I give to people is with much experience and working knowledge. So when someone posts after me with a post that sounds as if I'm some joker who read about it once in a magazine, That is flat out RUDE.

As for the info I posted I stand behind it. And if you are willing and decide you want to do that particular mod, Then by all means. E-mail me and I will give you all of the EXACT information you WILL NEED.

This is my truck:

I removed the 22" that made it an extended cab... Yes the weld is a bit close to the bend in the chassis, but, there was reasoning for that, I jsut don't remember what it was 2 years later
I am not trying to be rude. But, I highly suggest that before any frame modifications are done, that the origional poster check out what has to be done to make it legal in his state/provence/etc..
The actual chassis modification itself will be rather simple, but, installing the new cab, and getting a clear title for it may be more of a challenge. Most salvage yards I have dealt with sell cabs bare, and generally do not include papers. If one purchases a donor truck with a good cab, it will most likely have a decent body, and frame, so, a powertrain swap would be a considerably smaller undertaking.
