starting problem

ignition
well my 79 f150 finnally ran ... but only when i hold the key all the way on ie ... in the start position not good for the starter so what do i look for now.... i changed the ignition switch it made no difference ...where do i look for the problem ... thanks 500 ponies ...

well my 79 f150 finally runs well sort of ... it will run if i hold the key at the start position only ...hard on the starter but when i let go of the key to the run position it dies ... i changed the ignition switch so thats one thing less to check but where do i look now ...

Check the wiring, hook a testor up to the connector which connects to the red wire on the Ignition module and see if you still have power, you probably won't when the key is on, but you will have it when the key is in the start position. You should have power when the key is on. Probably something wrong in the wiring harness. I would find a wiring diagram of the key switch, and find that wire and run a new wire going to the ignition module.

well i have power at the coil and it fires when i hold the key in the start position ... but no power at the modual with the key on ... .ie the red and black stripe wire .. so now where do i go from here .. does any one have a diagram of a 79 truck from the ignition switch to the control box ..any help would be apreciated
