Minor Tuneup Questions?

I recently purchased an older(1995) 7.3 P/S One ton Crew Cab. What a beauty, forest green and has seen very little time on paved roads! Actually this truck was used in the oil fields here in Alaska so there are a few dings but overall this old truck is pretty clean and runs quit well. Only 75000 miles. The only problem that I have with it is Starting 'er Up in the morning. If I've had it pluged in for a few hours it starts right up. also will restart just fine thruout the day.

Im planning on doing some minor maintance to clean up this starting problem. At this point I've got a set of glow plugs and a new Glow Plug soleniod. Can you think of any other parts that I should have on hand or offer any advice. I live 50 miles from town so I need to plan things out just a little. Also I have already installed two new battries. Thanks!

Since I purchased the truck we have been in winter season, after all I do live in Alaska. The temp range has been from
+32 deg to -15. It wiil not start unless it has been plugged in for at least three hours. By the way I have been driving Diesel trucks for many years in the Alaskan arctic, so I do know how to start trucks in cold weather. Yesterday I started my work truck and the temp was -43 degF. Yes it was plugged in! I work in northern Alaska and live 800 miles south in South Central Ak.

Shendoa- You sure as heck didn't upset me. I know that these temps here in northern Alaska are a little extreme to say the least. Normally when the temp goes to -30 or lower we let the trucks run all the time. Gotta check that oil though!

By the way I plan on using the truck to pull a 10000 pound boat regulaly in the summer.

Question for you: Did you fall out of you truck and break your arm or were you doing something fun like sking?

I was towing with a Suburban but that just wasn't doing the trick with this larger boat: "27 ft Sea Sport Navigator" power by twin Volvo Penta SP(Gas) 250's. I'm much more of a boat nut than I am with road toys anymore. I'm a firm beleiver that if you want to see and enjoy Alaska you'd better leave the road system. Even so you had better have the right tow vehicle to get the job done.
I'm kind of an ol' fart as well. I fell in a river while fly fishing and seriously broke my leg a few years back.
