How does the wait to start light work? Goes on when glowplugs are enagaged and goes off when they shutdown? Or is it temperature sensing? I find on mine it doesn't stay on very long when the engine is warm, maybe 2 seconds maybe 4 or 5 seconds when it is cold.
you got it,the wait to start light goes off when the computer sences there is enough heat in the cubustion chamber to light off the air/fuel charge. on some starts(mostly with a cold engine) the glow plugs will stay on for a few minutes(after the light goes off) while the engine is running
In the event thay you had a single or multiple glow plugs that were faulty or a faulty Relay. Would this "Wait to start" indicator act any differently?
The glow plugs cycle for 120 seconds, the light will stay on longer when cold, shorter when warm. Sometimes if the relay is faulty the light won't come on or will come on and go off real quick.
The glow plugs cycle time depends on the EOT engine oil temperature sensor. The temp is what determines how long they stay on. When the light goes out the glow plugs may still be on. Anything below 30 deg F the motor should be pugged in to keep the block warm and ensure easy startup.
