Look on the door for the spring code - my '01 F250 4x4 SC SB has "TA" - which means I have T springs in the front, one step up from the base "S" springs - X springs are usually in the plow package...
D rated tires will have a weaker sidewall than E rated tires. It will probably help the ride, but I wouldn't do it because of the tire strength. Also, when avoiding a collision, it can get dangerous with D rated tires because the truck will sway a lot more.
If you want a good ride, run the tires at 50 pounds, my truck rides better than my '96 t-bird and '97 Cougar, both w/Sport.
