Muffler Query

Anyone here ever tried the Summit Racing Brand Performance Turbo Mufflers ? Below is their ad !!!!!!!!!!!

We knew our Summit Turbo mufflers would perform before we cranked up the dyno. But when one of these mufflers produced 21 horsepower more than a leading competitor's muffler--well, we were floored. Made with free-flowing large diameter tubing, they give you a deep performance tone without being too loud. Features include roll-seamed end caps, aluminized external construction, and spot-welded inner baffles. Best of all, they're 100 percent American made! $14.75

Maybe the price should indicate what they are really worth.

Yeah I'm sure the performance gains aren't that high.
I had the Summit dual catback and it came with a turbo muffler. Not sure if its the same style design as the current one, but it sounded pretty decent. Burbly idle, deep growl on acceleration and you could hardly hear it in the cab at all. On the outside it was kinda loud but not overbearing.

akford351,

Thanks for the reply. I found several reviews . Below is one , but they all were consistent. So when I put them on I'll post my review.

Sal, the biggest restrictions for the stock motor are the intake and exhaust. You can easily open up about 15-20 horses if you "fix" both those poblems. The stock mufflers are very restrictive too. "I use Summit Turbo mufflers ($14.75 each!) to replace the stockers. The sound great and an exhaust shop should be able to install them for less than 50 bucks. And they don't intrude, noise wise. But you'll get PLENTY of compliments on the sound. "

The info between the quotes in particular.

A muffler can only do so much for your HP. And 21HP over a competitor, which I assume would be someone like flowmaster or dynomax, seems a bit excessive. I don't really think that this muffler is going to give you 21 more HP over another High Performance muffler. IMHO.

Lone_Ranger01,

Not really concerned at all about the 21Hp. Just the sound. The 21Hp was just advertising hype. I hope that most American citizens are aware of how advertising is done in this country, always over inflated. Thanks for the reply.
