My 02 True blue 350 is only a few weeks old and one minor complaint I have is the finish on the tailgate. The finish on the rest of the truck is relatively smooth, but when it comes to the tailgate it looks a bit textured or orange peely. The bed appeared this way also,no big deal.It seems that it was sprayed a bit too heavy and started to sag before it set up.Maybe this is coated by the same machine that does the bed and they just wanted a good thick coat on the bed.
Does anyone have this same appearance on their SD?
Can the dealer knock it down a bit with some minor sanding and buffing?I really don't want the tailgate resprayed.
Truthfully the paint on my 02 is the best I've seen on a truck
in quite awhile.
The problem is the clear is not really thick enough to alow them
to sand with #600 grit or finer they'll go right through, then they'll
have to repaint anyway.
In the old days you could just block sand it and re clear it but with this new paint.I couldn't tell ya ,someone else might be able to answer
better.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Mar-02 AT 10:15 PM (EST)]If I'm not mistaken. The clear is what's actually rough and the paint these days is just basically the color.
Does the paint feel like their is little bumps on it? If so your paint might be trying to lift and if thats the case it will need to be repainted. But you may want to take it back to your dealer and get them to document the problem just in case their is a problem down the road. hope your still enjoy your new truck. take care
