My son has a 87 ranger 4x4 with the v6 in it. It was running really rough on the road so we replaced the fuel pressure regulator and also checked the o2 sensor and it came up bad, so we replace that as well. The truck seemed to run much better but now it is running rough again. The plugs and wires where all replaced along with the cap. The truck seems to act as if the choke was always on but it is a fuel injected truck and has no choke. Could this be the cause of a bad map sensor telling the injectors to stay open longer. There is no code or check engine light comming on yet. When you are driving it down the road if it starts to run rough it you mash the gas or turn the key off then back on it will clear just for a little bit, but will start right back up after a short time. I hope someone can give me more ideas on what to check or look at.
Yours might be different, but my 87 is not equipped with a check engine light, Have you taken 2 minutes to pull the codes? If the MAP is bad it will give you a code.
I did check the fuel pressure and it is ok. I did not pull any codes yet. I do not have a code reader for that but will try to take it someone to get it read. I did find a test procedure to test the MAP sensor so I will also try that. Thanks for the help and I will let you know what I find out.
