Think again! Ranger now shows a vote and SUV has one (down from two).
I had a '97 Exploder until last year... I thought it was a much better SUV than the previous generation. Stronger engine and not prone to as many problems as the earlier 90's were.
Mine have given me no real problems, they both have the 4.0L engine and both mysteriously lose coolant.
The 91 takes a bit of cranking to make it start which I have never been able to figure out. No codes, new sensors, new fuel pressure reg, all new power connections (twice). It also eats an alternator every year. If I don't get rid of it this summer I will probably replace the fuel pump since the sender unit failed this last year and I would be dropping the tank anyway. It runs great tho!
The 94 is a 5-speed stick sport model that my daughter drives. She can tear up a car easy as pie, -how I don't know. She ripped all three motor mounts out this last year, sheared off bolts... I know how things like that happen but she swears that nothing like that happened. My wife drives like a maniac also. Thankfully my son drives real well.
I have heard about all sorts of nasty blend door and door switch problems with the later models. Stupid stuff that was so much better b4 they tried adding more bells and whistles that only fail. Of course all of the newer ignition locks have problems. All of my older vehicles have had the old solid 5-cut key locks retrofitted into them. I can't retrofit the 98 Contour I hate cars anyway. I hate having to pull myself up off the ground to get out!
