Excursion mirrors on a F350 SD

I put a set of power heated Excursion tow mirrors on my 2000 F350 SD. I like them a lot better than the mickey mouse ears I had.

How does the Excursion turn on the mirror defrost?

In the F350, there is no electrical defroster to tie the derfost power into. I think my mirror adjust switch is bad - I was wondering if the Excursion switch would fit the F350 and if it has a switch for the heated mirrors.

thanks,
mike

The mirror heat function is operated by the same dash-mounted switch that simultaneously energizes the rear window defroster.

Thanks for the reply - I was afraid someone was going to tell me that. Guess I improvise a switch.

Why add another switch? If it were up to me, I'd determine which wire "feeds" the rear defroster, then tap into it for the heating elements in the mirrors. It's called the K.I.S.S. principle. Any time you need the mirrors defrosted, you'll also need to defrost the rear glass. Your choice.

I agree with K.I.S.S. Unfortunately, The F350 does not have an electronic defroster installed. Maybe the models that don't have a sliding rear window do but mine doesn't.

Ahhh ... NOW it makes sense. Please excuse me for not remembering you were talking about an F350.

on the newer superduties, the heat is on all of the time. I just installed the TT with light and heat.

That is good to know - maybe I don't need to install a switch. It would certainly be simple to put power to them all the time.

The thing is many have complained (f series) that they don't want the heat on all the time. So they rig up a switch. If your already into it, this would be the best time to add a switch.
