What is standard on the 02 250 SD 4x4? manual locking hubs and a gear lever inside or is it a switch on the dash as well? Shift on the fly upgrade goes with auto hubs and ability to (obviously) go to 4wd without stopping?
Yeah theres something comforting about knowing your frontend is truly engaged Last time I was in a push button 4wd we ended up buried in the sand(chebby), something wasnt engaging right and nothing was happening up front, hehe. All my vehicles so far have been levers, so will this one more than likely How are the stock manual hubs? pretty decent setup?
Something can be said for NOT crawling around in mud/water/streams, etc. Thats what makes ESOF nice, and it DID keep me from getting stuck in unforseen SOFT terrain with my camper
One flip of the lever and heavy throttle pulled me back to the highway...barely. If I'd gotten out to lock hubs, I'd have lost all momentum and been STUCK Also, driving in intermittent snowy roads (shadows/sun), its real nice to be able to flip back and forth.
I've always had "levers" too, but man, this can spoil a guy
If you do order ESOF, use it OFTEN. I think guys who have problems try to use it twice a year
Yeah, I hate to get out to, I remember thinking that, with my 93 f-150 push button, I said to myself, as i was laying in a pool of muck, wish I just had manual lock outs and then I could just get my boots wet and muddy rather than my whole body crawling underneath to hit the solonoid on the transfer case to get it to engage.
Im sure auto hubs and the electronics have been improved since then, but the 4 seconds it takes for me to manually engage my hubs and pull a lever before I get to the bad stuff is a good enough piece of mind for me, plus think of the excersise your getting.
Back in '93, I'd have totally agreed with you. However, these new systems are pretty good- especially with the manual override hubs. And, having had shift linkage break, I can tell you that whether you're beating on an electric motor or a shift arm, it still sucks to be laying in the mud & muck.
How can you guys do that to these beautiful superduty's
run them through the mud the blood and the beer like that, these
trucks have to be babied ,beat on them with hammers ,breakin shift levers
my god you guys are mean!!!!!!!!!!!'')

I was at a red light today, staring at one of those mud slides er avalnaches, thinking...COULD THEY MAKE SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE UGLY.
Then I got a gander at the guy driving and thought ...figures.
