electrical short
I am having a problem I have not been able to figure out yet. But I am continuing to try. Maybe you have had this problem??
I have a 89' L6 F-150 Lariat , the problem is my truck battery dies in 2 days if I do not drive it. The battery is brand new. It has been doing this even with the old battery, I noticed that when I turn the ignition key switch to go to start the truck.. That I do not hear the fuel pump go on.. That is because I believe it is already on... I just recently replaced the alternator w/ voltage regulator... This is because my truck charging capacity died so I replaced the alternator...
Any ideas??? Please write... Thanks! DaverL
Turn off everything in the cab, and all lights, radio, etc. Remove the negative battery cable. Use a single-filiment 12-volt tail-light light bulb and touch the removed battery cable to the metal ferrule around the base and touch the center contact of the bulb to the negative post of the battery. If the bulb lights up, something is on that shouldn't be on. If the bulb just barely lights up, it's probably because of the power being used by the clock. The brighter the bulb lights, the heavier the electrical load that shouldn't be there.
Be sure all doors are closed when you do this test, so the courtesy lights are NOT on - otherwise the bulb at the battery will be quite bright!
If the bulb test shows something is sucking juice, get a friend to hold the bulb while you pull individual fuses (one at a time) out of the fuse panel (remember to keep the doors shut). When you pull a fuse that makes the "battery" bulb go out (or dim), whatever is on that fused circuit is the cause of your problem. Start checking that item or those items.
Good luck!
