When purchasing a used vehicle ( '03 ) still under warranty (15,700 mi.), is there something I need to know regarding the transfer of the warranty to myself? ....any charges for this? How will I know, before I purchase the vehicle, if the original warranty will still be honored. Reckon a Ford dealership would run the VIN to check to see if the truck has had all it's required maintenance done in the past? I'm not buying it from a Ford dealership and would hate, once I purchase the truck, for them (Ford) tell me the original warranty is no good.
You could simply call the service dept. at your local ford dealer and ask them this question.
I would think that since the truck is under the 3/36K warr. period (depending on the truck's delivery date) that the warr. follows the truck, no matter who owns it.
I recently went through the same thing. Call Ford (if you're in the US) at this number: 800-392-3673. Info at the Ford website here: http://www.ford.com/en/support/contactUs.htm
Have the VIN, and you can register truck warranty in your name
It cost me $50 and I had to fill out a form on my '97 Expedition when I bought it. I was pretty disappointed about the $50. It didn't seem like I should have had to pay that.
